Taken from the very fine set of medieval c.1400 – 1419 Misericords of Carlisle Cathedral, this carving is of the legendary creature known as a Griffin, with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. As the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle the king of the birds, the griffin was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature. However one can see that this Griffin is a little different in that it retains a head most simular to that of a lion and not an eagle.This stunning reproduction has been taken from the original capturing all the fine detail carved by the master craftmen who originally carved this piece 600 years ago. Comes with wall fixing and product label.

This is a cast replica produced from a mould taken directly from the original carving found within Carlisle Cathedral, England. We have exclusive permission to take moulds from original medieval carvings from within the Cathedrals of Britain and to then reproduce them for sale. These reproductions are cast from a resin composite and then stained to give the product all the fine detail, feel and authenticity of the original carving.
