Taken from the beautiful and ornate carvings found upon the misericords within the choir stalls of Ripon Cathedral. This hand crafted reproduction has been produced from a mould taken directly from the original medieval carving and which captures all the fine detail applied by the master craftsmen that carved these in the middle ages, representing a true piece of history and heritage.

Product Description

This is one of our unique and exclusive hand crafted medieval reproduction carvings.  This replica is produced from a mould taken directly from the original carving found within Ripon Cathedral, England. We have exclusive permission to take moulds from original medieval carvings from within the Cathedrals & Abbeys of Britain and to then reproduce them for sale. These reproductions are cast from a resin composite and then stained to give the product all the fine detail, feel and authenticity of the original carving.

 

 

Pig playing Bagpipes.

 

Taken from the medieval carvings (1490 – 1495) from within the choir stalls of Ripon Cathedral on one of the lavishly ornate carved Misericords. This carving is of a Pig or may probably be a Hog that is playing a set of bagpipes. There are many carvings from the medieval period found throughout English Cathedrals today that show pigs and hogs having fun and participating in human cultural activities. In the middle ages these animals were thought of as being jolly, intelligent and most of all being happy and content with life in times that were very uncertain for the people of the period. Again like most of the carvings from Ripon this is in exceptional condition and recreated with all the fine detail from the master craftsmen that carved them.
